ARLINGTON — The Eagles tried to let their posts do all of the talking, but the Vikings kept too hectic a pace to let that happen.

In a 52-38 Wesco North loss to Lake Stevens Dec. 15, Arlington’s youth showed as they had yet to learn how to control the tempo.

“We knew they were going to try to run up and down the court,” said Arlington coach Nathan Davis, whose roster includes just one senior. “We just made a few mistakes and you can’t let that happen against a team like that.”

Lake Stevens came out firing early, most notably guard Katie Goddard, who connected on a trio of 3-pointers in the first quarter to leave Arlington trailing 16-7. She finished with a game-high 14 points.

The Vikings maintained their quick pace in the second quarter, often resulting in open perimeter shooters, as they made five in the first half on their way to a 31-19 lead over the Eagles.

Things slowed down a bit in the third quarter, enough for the Eagles to make a run that left the score 38-30 at the start of the final frame, but nine unanswered Vikings points were too much for Arlington.

The loss drops the Eagles to 4-2 overall with a 1-2 record in conference play.

Leading the way for Arlington was junior point guard Megan Abdo, who finished with nine points.

“I thought Megan handled their press very well,” said Davis. “She had a great game tonight.”

Davis also noted that he was impressed by sophomore post Lindsay Brown.

“I thought she did a tremendous job rebounding for us and taking good shots,” he said.

Brown finished with four points and nine rebounds.

Arlington travels to Monroe Dec. 22 at 7:30 p.m.
