A free kick proved costly to the Arlington girls soccer team.

With their district invite already in hand, Arlington faced Stanwood in the season ender Oct. 30 with a chance to improve their seeding in the district tournament. But while the girls were able to come back and tie the game at a goal a piece, they had no answer for Stanwood’s second goal in the 73rd minute that gave the Spartans the win and Arlington the district’s fourth seed.

“We shot a lot last night and just didn’t put anything into the back of the net,” said Arlington coach Nathan Davis.

He praised the play of midfielders Jessica Van Loo and Kristina Longosky, the latter of whom scored for Arlington.

The Eagles began districts against Shorewood at Shoreline Stadium Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. after The Globe and Times went to press.
