STANWOOD — The Arlington girls golf team qualified Emmi Modahl and Natalie Mackey from the 3A district tournament to state May 18. Modahl scored a 84-91-175, and Mackey a 84-91-175 over 18 holes at Kayak Point Golf Course.

MARYSVILLE — The Arlington track team qualified three boys and one girl to state at the 3A district preliminaries at Quil Ceda Stadium.
The qualifying four are: 1,600—Nathan Beamer, first in 4 minutes, 16.10 seconds; long jump—Ryley Nelson, third jumping 20-5 meters; shot put—Wyatt Hawthorne, second throwing 13-6 meters; and 1600—Marie Gaudin, third in 5:00.80.
Marysville-Pilchuck’s Bianca Acuario qualified for the M-P girls in the long jump. She placed third leaping 17-5 meters.
EVERETT — Marysville-Pilchuck’s Kylie Lopez led with five RBIs in a back-and-forth battle that resulted in an 18-11 win over Mountlake Terrace in the first round of the 3A district tournament May 17.
It couldn’t carry over into the next game. M-P was routed by Meadowdale 12-0 in the second round, and had to play Edmonds-Woodway May 19 in a loser-out game.
“You got to keep the game close. They’re a good team,” coach Aaron Zachry said. “We knew they were going to hit, and we knew we were going to have to score runs.”
M-P was able to players on base but couldn’t get any runs home, Zachry said.
“Now we flush it and move on,” Zachry said. “We can win a couple of games Thursday night. It’s still up to us.”
If M-P defeats Edmonds-Woodway, they will advance to the third-place loser-out game against either Mountlake Terrace or Glacier Peak.
EVERETT — The Arlington softball team was eliminated from the 3A district tournament after losing to Glacier Peak 7-3 and then an 11-9 thriller to Edmonds-Woodway May 17.
Arlington finished the season 10-12 overall. Senior captain Chandler Bishop pitched just about every game for the Eagles. She’s a little sad to leave Arlington behind but was still stoked to pitch in both district rounds, especially the second game.
“I thought it was a great battle,” Chandler said. “All-in-all I thought we had a pretty good showing today.”
Bishop, along with fellow senior captain Kendall Fields, played on Arlington’s team when they won the state title in 2013.
“It’s tough. It’s the last game for me,” Fields said. “It’s definitely hard to have it come to an end.”
Both girls have played a role in building up the team for next season, coach Dan Eng said.
“We have a lot of under-classmen and that’s why I brought a lot of them up. Most of them are JV,” Eng said. “I’m really proud of how they stepped up — them trying to teach.”
SNOHOMISH — Arlington’s Austin Faux tied for third with Stanwood’s Quinton Borseth, both scoring a 73, and teammate Connor Stephens placed fourth with 76 points to place the Arlington’s boys golf team fourth overall with 428 points in the 3A District champsionship May 16.
Marysville-Pilchuck placed eighth and last with 456 points. It was led by JD Trueax, who scored an 81.
