SNOHOMISH — A late Eagles’ comeback fell short inside the last minute of a 56-51 Wesco North loss at Snohomish Jan. 14.

“I’m disappointed in the way we played tonight,” said coach Nick Brown. “We thought we could play a little better and get away with being fancy and it just didn’t work.”

Snohomish snapped Arlington’s four-game win streak, but it wasn’t easy as an Eagles’ 9-4 run put the game within one possession with just two minutes remaining.

Junior guard Zach Cooper hit the first of consecutive three-pointers in the final two minutes to make the score 48-45. Snohomish responded by going to its post game for a 6-0 run that took just a minute. The game looked out of reach at 54-48, but Cooper hit his other three-pointer while being fouled, intentionally missed the free throw so teammate Bo Brummel would have a put-back for a five-point play to make the score 54-50.

And Arlington got everything it needed to complete the comeback then Snohomish missed the front end on a pair of ensuing 1-and-1 situations, but the Eagles couldn’t score.

“I didn’t think we shot the ball very well,” Brown said. “And we have the last four games, but that match-up zone is a little goofy and we weren’t used to finding spots and they’ve got long arms.”

As has been the case in most of Arlington’s (7-5 overall, 4-4 Wesco) losses, size was a concern. Snohomish forward Jonathan McGee, a 6-5 senior, scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

“He is a good player,” Brown said. “We had a hard time keeping him off the block.”

Charged with that responsibility was 6-1 forward Blake Petersen, who scored a team-high 11 points and kept Snohomish forwards out of the key for the middle two quarters.

“That’s kind of the case every night,” Petersen said. “We knew they wanted to come inside and we did a pretty good job of keeping them out.”

Along with Petersen, Carlson added 10 points and Cooper had nine.
