ARLINGTON – For awhile, it looked like whichever team scored first would win the game.
Arlington and Shorewood battled to a scoreless tie after four innings. So when Shorewood scored a run in the top of the fifth it looked pretty good for the visitors.
But not for long. The Eagles erupted for five runs in the bottom of the inning then held on to win 5-3.
Tristan Sheward was the winning pitcher, giving up two earned runs and striking out five in 6-plus innings. He was locked in a pitching duel with long-armed side-winder Skyler Manelski until the bottom of the fifth, when the hometown Eagles finally got to him, along with two relievers, to put the game out of reach.
At the plate for the Eagles, Jared went 2-4 with a triple and an RBI, and Gavin Rork also went 2-4 and knocked in a run.
Arlington improved to 14-3, while Shorewood dropped to 10-4.
