SNOHOMISH – Taras McCurdie of Arlington won the singles title at the Wesco 3A North Tournament last week.
He advances to districts Monday and Tuesday at Arlington High School at 1 p.m.
He blanked his first opponent 6-0, 6-0 then in the semifinals won 6-2, 6-2. He then beat Adam Kowalchyk of Snohomish in the championship match.
Eagle teammate Keaton McBride won his first-round match, but then was eliminated by Kowalchyk 6-3, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
Parker Devereaux of Marysville-Pilchuck won his first-round matchup 6-3, 6-3. He lost in the next round 7-6, 6-2 before being eliminated in the consolation bracket.
Bob Green and Colby Wagstaff, both of Marysville Getchell, lost in the first round, as did Trae Tingelstad of M-P.
In doubles, Arlington’s team of Ben Spores-Ben Nichols placed second, losing the first set 6-0, battling to win the second 7-6 with 7 points in the tiebreaker, but falling in the third set 6-3.
They advance as do Aaron Kalab-Treven Southard of M-P, who placed fourth. They won their match 6-4, 6-4 to qualify. Arlington’s team of Tomas Ramirez-Cody Perdue also make the consolation semifinals but lost. Spores-Nichols won their semifinal match 6-3, 6-2. Connor Peterson-Carson Asper of M-P made it to the semifinals before losing.
Ramirez-Perdue and Kalab Southard won their consolation rounds to advance.
Ramirez-Perdue lost in the quarterfinals, while Peterson-Asper won their battle 6-0, 6-7 (11) and 7-4 (4). Spores-Nichols won their quarterfinal match over Kalab-Southard 6-3, 6-0.
Ramirez-Perdue won their first-round match in three sets; Peterson-Asper in straight sets; and Kaleb-Southard in three sets over Jax-Larkin-Kanyen Sherwood of M-P 5-7, 6-2, 6-1.
Losing in the first round for MG were: Eben Heacock-Evan Sprague and Walker Braillard-Luke Olason.
Cross country
Lakewood’s girls finished fifth and the boys seventh at the Northwest Conference Championships last week.
For the girls, junior Callie Buchanan was 12th in 19 minutes, 54 seconds; junior Madison Howe was 18th in 20:30; freshman Alexa Daily 19th in 20:38; junior Holly Riley 40th in 21:51; and junior Jaydee Yargus 46th in 22:19. Torrie Blackwood was 76th and Johanna Schmidt 77th.
For the boys, junior Alex Jensen was 14th in 16 minutes, 50 seconds. Sophomore Gabe Hatch was 28th in 17:14; junior Mario Barletta 36th in 17:42; freshman Jarron Ransford 53rd in 18:03; sophomore Ben Schmidt 63rd in 18:20; and freshman Joseph Heisley 71st in 18:38. Jesse Stoddard was 82nd, and Jorryn Stoddard 111th.
Districts are at South Whidbey at noon Saturday.
Girls soccer
M-P scored a convincing 5-0 win over Everett last week.
Trina Davis scored two goals and assisted on three more to lead M-P, 4-10-1. Meaghan and Mackensie Connelly, along with Elizabeth Martinez, scored one goal each. Mackenzie also had an assist. Goalkeeper Vanessa Perez had 10 saves.
Arlington lost its game to Oak Harbor 2-0, and Lakewood also lost to Lynden Christian in 2A action 2-0.
