If you are wondering when school is going to start one look at Quil Ceda Stadium will tell you – soon – actually Sept. 6.
The Marysville-Pilchuck High School girls soccer team was practicing this week. Their season starts Sept. 7 at home at 7:30 p.m. against Lake Stevens.
Over at Marysville Getchell High School, its football team was practicing from 2-6 p.m., after also practicing that morning. Their first game is Sept. 1. It’s at Lake Washington, also at 7 p.m.
In Arlington, the boys tennis team practiced. The team starts its competition Sept. 5 at Mount Vernon.
Based on last year’s All-Wesco league teams, Arlington should have the best football squad returning, with four standout players.
Both offensive and defensive lineman senior Michael Van Beek and Gabe Green, a senior punter and linebacker, made the first team last fall.
Making the second team were senior defensive back Jacob Hubbard and junior returner Tallen Williams.
Many of the league’s top returners are local soccer players.
Arlington, Marysville Getchell and Marysville-Pilchuck all have one senior player back who was on the first team.
They would be: Eagles goalie Brielle Schrader, M-P midfielder Olivia Lee and MG midfielder Hayli Huhta.
Making the second team were: Arlington midfielder Gia Tift and defender Kristin Abraham; two juniors from M-P in goalie Hanna Koehn and Trina Davis, a forward; and MG forward Oshinaye Taylor.
In cross country the top returners are seniors Dawson Andrews and Mary Andrews, along with junior Blake Landry, all of Arlington; along with Zach Arcaro, an MG senior.
