ARLINGTON — The Haller Middle School team stayed perfect, defeating La Conner in the first half of a double dual meet at Post Middle School.
La Conner proved formidable, but even excluding the six forfeits that gave Haller a 36-point advantage in the team score, Haller still outwrestled their rivals, adding to the 7-0 record they accumulated coming into the March 5 competition, winning 72-32.
Haller won five matches in a stretch of six that put the boys up 36-8. At 90 pounds, Chris Paulk won with a second-round pin. Teammate Colby Morginson lost a major decision, but the next four guys reeled off pins in the first round that put Haller up for good over La Conner. At 105 pounds, Connor Gonzales got the quickest pin, taking down his opponent with 1:04 left in the round. At 100 pounds, Scotty Bardell took a 3-0 lead before pinning his opponent with 11 seconds left. At 110 and 115 pounds, Austin Wells and Tyler Wells scored points on a combined three takedowns before pinning their opponents.
Mario Mirante also had a win in competition, pinning his rival at 145 pounds to put Haller up 60-14.
Winning by forfeit, Zion Dunnington, Jesse Driscoll, Jayden Jira, Ryan Thomas, Donovan Evans and A.J. Passalacqua also earned points for their team.
