PASCO — Outstanding seniors bade farewell to their high school careers with outstanding performances at state.
Seniors Bryan Mack and Kjirsten Jensen were multiple medalists for Arlington High School in their final state meets.
After competing at state last year in the triple jump, Mack qualified for state this spring in the maximum-allowed four events, making the finals in the boys 100, the triple jump where he finished more than a foot and a half further than his seed jump of 43-10 to finish in fourth place, and the boys 4×100 relay of Mack, Brandon Gunter, Kellen Botten and Marcus Dolan, which finished in seventh place.
“I’m actually pretty happy with my performance,” Mack said after the triple jump finals, his last event of the meet. “You can always wish you did better, but I’m happy.”
“I think my favorite moment was qualifying for the 4×100 finals, because it feels good to win as a team,” added the senior who hopes to run track at either Western Washington University or Central Washington University next year.
Mack also competed in the long jump.
Jensen came to Pasco to defend her state titles in the girls shot put and discus, and repeated in the more unlikely event. The only competitor coming into the meet with a 40-plus foot mark in the shot put, Jensen placed second in the event behind season-long rival Kirsten Smith of Everett. Jensen atoned for the placement by coming from behind the top-seeded Smith in the discus to win, with a mark of 133-3.
Gunter, who medaled for Arlington as part of the 400 relay, went out in style with a performance in the boys long jump, too, finishing in ninth — one place out of medaling — with a best jump of 21-3/4.
A final Arlington participant medaled over the Memorial Day weekend, sophomore Ginny Wilson. A veteran of last year’s state-qualifying 4×100 relay as a freshman, Wilson came to state this year as a high jumper. She finished in seventh place with a best jump of 5-0.

Bryan Mack — fourth place in the boys triple jump (45-5 3/4), seventh place in the boys 100 (11.17), 11th place in the boys long jump (20-9 1/2).
Luke Passalacqua — 16th place in the boys 800 (2:03.83).
Virginia Wilson — seventh place in the girls high jump (5-0).
Amanda Wregglesworth — 15th place in the girls 300 hurdles (48.04).
Boys 4×100 relay — seventh place (43.42).
