Lakewood breaks school record in win

LAKEWOOD — The Lakewood boys basketball team set a new record, scoring 17 3-pointers in its 93-59 win over Mount Vernon Christian Dec. 7.

Lakewood junior Kaleb Duitsman led with 21 points and seven rebounds, and freshman Alex Jensen added 20.

The boys lost a close non-league game to 3A Gig Harbor 60-58 Dec. 5.

Coach Anthony Wiederkehr said, he saw nothing but promising things out of the young Cougars, who are now playing in the 2A Northwest Conference.

Duitsman led with 20 points, but Jensen added 18. Lakewood has only two seniors on the team—Tyrell Coleman and Justin Gustafson.

“We have a very young team, but a bright future for sure,” Wiederkehr said.

Wiederkehr said it was a game of runs, and the Cougars fell as bar behind as 18-4 at the start. They rallied to a one-point lead briefly in the second quarter.

“I think it’s a good confidence booster if nothing else,” Wiederkehr said. “It was also good to see when our backs are up against the wall, we responded.”

Lakewood’s record is 1-2.
