TACOMA — Local boys and girls wrestlers placed at the state tournament Feb. 18.
The Arlington boys wrestling placed 13th with 44 points out of 59 teams in the 3A division. Tristan Emery, a 285-pound senior, took second, losing the championship bout to Oak Harbor senior Samuel Zook by fall at two minutes, 47 seconds; 138-pound junior Gavin Rork placed fourth, losing the third-place match to Stanwood freshman Riley Van Scoy 8-3; and 195-pound senior Colton Ferro placed sixth, losing by injury to Kamiakin junior Luke Eskelsen in the fifth-place match.
Marysville-Pilchuck’s boys team took 17th scoring 36.5 points. Senior Keith Pablo placed second in the 170-pound weight class, losing the championship match to Southridge senior Zayid Al-Ghani 5-2; and 106-pound junior Cole Daurie took fourth, losing the third-place match to Kelso sophomore Ben Hunnicutt 3-0.
Marysville Getchell’s boys team only took senior Charlie Diedrich in the 220-pound weight class, but he did not place in the finals.
The Lakewood boys placed 46th in the 2A division with four points. It’s only state wrestler, freshman John Seth in the 113-pound weight class, did not place.
Arlington’s girls team placed 56th out of 123 teams scoring 15 points. Senior Jordynn Mani at 110 pounds, placed seventh defeating Prosser freshman Mollee Weddle by pin in 3:59; and 120-pound senior Rachel Sherson placed eighth, losing to White River sophomore Payton Stroud by fall at 22 seconds in the seventh-place match.
Lakewood’s girls team placed 69th with six points but none of its wrestlers placed.
