Marysville-Pilchuck and Arlington won 3A Wesco games Monday night, but Marysville Getchell lost a heart-breaker in double overtime.
The Chargers fell behind after one quarter 19-13, but held the visitors to just three points in the second to take a 25-22 halftime lead.
MG added to that lead in the third quarter, outscoring the Thunderbirds 22-14.
But the snake-bitten Chargers lost another game in the fourth quarter, being outscored 25-14. To start that period, Malakhi Knight scored inside, hit two free throws after a steal and connected on a three-point play. When Mejinta Adams-Taylor hustled for two consecutive offensive rebounds, leading to Josiah Koellmer’s 3, the home team went up 57-44 with 5:25 left in the game.
But some easy buckets breaking MG’s full-court press, followed by three Charger turnovers, paved the way for the comeback, as the scored was knotted at 61-61, sending it into overtime.
Knight scored 30 and Koellmer 19 in the losing effort. Other scoring: Lul William 9, Chase Showalter 5, Caleb Koellmer 4 and Cole Norton 2.
At Mountlake Terrace, M-P easily beat a team that had only lost once all year 51-42.
The outcome never was in doubt as M-P took an 18-9 first-quarter lead, extended that to 35-20 at halftime, ran away with it after three periods 46-25 before MLT make it look closer than it was by winning the last quarter 17-5.
RaeQuan Battle led the winners with 25 followed by Ethan Jackson and Luke Dobler with 9 each, Cameron Stordahl with 4, and Aaron Kalab and Alec Jones-Smith with 2 each.
Arlington won its game over Lynnwood 67-55.
The Eagles had balanced scoring with Josh Gutierrez and Griffin Gardoski getting 18 each, Anthony Whitis 17, Will Abram 9, Caden Smith 3 and Max Smith 2.
