MARYSVILLE — The Mighty Marlins Swim Club racked up 28 first-place finishes out of 48 events as they hosted Storm Aquatics and North Whidbey Swim Club in a dual meet June 17.
The boys pulled off a win in the three-team field, while the girls finished in second place.
Fifteen-year-old Geina Malavolti and 8-year-old Bindi Pedersen each had three event wins as individuals and each contributed to at least one winning relay for the Marlins. Pedersen was on the winning mixed 10 and under 100 medley relay and the mixed 10 and under 100 freestyle relay. She also had winning times in the 8 and under 25 freestyle, the 10 and under 50 freestyle an the 8 and under 25 backstroke.
Malavolti won the 13 and older 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and the 100 individual medley. She swam the second leg of the mixed 200 freestyle relay as well.
On the boys side, Jason Pusateri and Raymon Tutewohl were double winners, Pusateri picking up wins in the 13 and older 100 butterfly and the 100 individual medley. Eleven-year-old Tutewohl picked up wins in the 11-12 50 freestyle and the 50 breaststroke, his 32.89 time in the freestyle meeting the Pacific Northwest Swimming Gold Standard time. Tutewohl was also third in the open 100 freestyle, behind swimmers five and six years older than him, including teammate Robbie Haynes, who had a Gold time himself in the race, dropping eight seconds for a 56.27 time.
Eight-year-old Leah Taylor nearly pulled off a hat trick of individual wins, placing first in the 10 and under 50 breaststroke and the 8 and under 25 butterfly. She placed second in the 10 and under 100 IM, but contributed to two more wins, swimming legs of the same winning 100 medley relay and 100 freestyle relay Pedersen swam.
The Marlins also had winning 200 medley relays in the 12 and under and 13 and over categories. Nathaniel Ludwig and Erin Delaney of the 12 and under relay also had solo wins, Ludwig in the 11-12 50 backstroke and Delaney in the 11-12 50 breaststroke.
Alicia Malavolti and Drew Preston of the 13 and older relay also had individual wins, Malavolti winning the first event of the meet, the girls 100 freestyle. Preston was a winner in the 13 and older 100 breaststroke.
