MARYSVILLE – Trailing 14-0 at the half, Marysville Getchell came back, but two extra point tries failed as the Chargers lost 14-12 to Shorecrest Friday on the opening day of the prep football season.
The Chargers scored two rushing touchdowns in the third quarter, but Shorecrest blocked the extra point after the first, and MG failed a two-point conversion pass on the second.
Cheron Smith rushed for 105 yards and a 1-yard touchdown on 18 carries for the Chargers, and Phillip Melomey added 53 yards and another score on a 36-yard jaunt.
Landyn Olson caught three passes for 31 yards and had an interception on defense.
QB Josiah Koellmer went 5-for-14 for 35 yards.
Shorecrest senior quarterback Eladio Fountain, one of the biggest players on the field at 6-foot-2, 255 pounds, plowed his way across the goal line on two quarterback sneaks for the Scots two scores.
SNOHOMISH – Marysville-Pilchuck (1-0) jumped out to a 14-0 lead then held on at Snohomish to win 17-14.
Dillon Kuk took the kickoff 90 yards for a score, then Jordan Justice took one to the house on a 35-yard run to give the Tomahawks the quick lead.
After a Panther score in the second quarter, Edgar Martinez kicked a 31-yard field goal in the third. Snohomish made it close on an 84-yard pass play in the third, but the defenses tightened from there for the final score.
Justice led M-P with 149 yards on 19 carries. Dylan Carson added 86 yards on 16 tries.
Kuk had six catches for 38 yards, and QB Jake Elwood went 7-for-17 for 40 yards.
The Panthers had 212 passing yards.
ARLINGTON – Arlington whipped Mariner 35-7 behind Jacob Kramer’s 203 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 25 carries.
Trent Nobach added three passing TDs for the Eagles (1-0).
Cade Younger scored on a 31-yard pass, then Joseph Schmidt caught another TD from Nobach. Kramer scored from 2-yards out, then Andrew Brotherton tallied another score on a 16-yarder from Nobach before Kramer scored again from 1-yard out. Nobach was 11-19 for 184 yards. Younger caught four of the passes for 61 yards.
LAKEWOOD – The Cougars (1-0) romped over Kings in their season opener 42-14.
Quarterback Jared Taylor threw for 222 yards and ran for 185 more, scoring three TDs rushing and two more passing.
Carson Chrisman had two receiving touchdowns and 128 yards. Jackson Shultz added a 5-yard TD run.
Taylor’s ran for scores of 25, 19 and 7 yards. Chrisman’s receptions of 80 and 25 yards led to two more scores. Taylor was 10 of 22 passing.
