LAKEWOOD — The Cougars will be as hospitable as they can, so long as they come out with the win.

That was the case in a Cascade Conference meet where Lakewood defeated four teams.

The boys team scored 116.5 points, compared to Archbishop Murphy’s 85, Kings’ 65.5, Coupeville’s 53 and Granite Falls’ 33.

Surprisingly, Lakewood didn’t earn a win from a large number of top finishes, but had seven second-place finishes.

Leading the way for the Cougs was senior Blair Diamond, who won the 110-meter hurdles (17.54) and the 300-meter hurdles (45.52).

Lakewood’s other win on the track came from sophomore Kris Mugrage in the 1,600, who edged out senior Taylor Guske.

In the field, Lakewood scored a win from freshman Justin Peterson, whose high jump mark of 5-10 was the highest on the day.

The Lakewood girls separated themselves in the field, scoring wins from junior Samantha Adams in the Javelin (106-07), senior Chrystle Clark in the pole vault (8-06) and junior Charnie Dondrea in the high jump (4-10).

On the track, the Cougars received wins from sophomores Rachel Cundy in the 1,600 (5:32.05) and Ilyssa Haunreiter in the 100-meter hurdles (17.67).

Girls’ team scores were Lakewood 112.5, Archbishop Murphy 107, King’s 69, Granite Falls 57.5 and Coupeville 16.

This marks the second team win for the girls and the third for the boys.

The Cougars conclude the regular season at home with a conference meet April 30.
