Snohomish County Express wins 14A Western World bracket
Coming off of a first-round bye and some so-so play, the Snohomish County Express girls took a tough loss in bracket play to the Stilly Valley Crusaders.
The girls came back and won six straight games within just over 24 hours to take the 14A NSA Western World Series title at Phil Johnson Park in Everett.
“The girls showed all kinds of heart and pride and all those great words. They outscored their opponents 62-6. They didn’t just come out and win games, they beat up on teams,” said manager Rick Fritz.
After falling to the Crusaders in the first round, the Express came back and beat them twice to take the championship, 10-running their local rivals twice.
“Stilly Valley was a hot team playing very well. Which is fun because I know every kid on the team, so its fun to play a team like that,” Fritz said.
Marysville offering sports physical
The Marysville School District is, once again, offering its comprehensive sports physical.
The physical, which is offered Aug. 18 from 4 – 7:30 p.m. at Marysville-Pilchuck High School, is provided to youth entering grades 7-12, touring athletes through stations that measure their vascular fitness and lung capacity. Doctors present also check students for orthopedic health and possible chemical discrepancies.
The Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association requires athletes in the state of Washington to have a physical every two years. Players whose physicals expire in the middle of a season will not be eligible to play that season or any after until a new physical is filed with the student’s school athletic office.
The district is charging $35 per student this year, down from $40 last year. The cost of the physical goes into a scholarship fund for the Marysville-Pilchuck Male and Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Appointments can be made starting Aug. 3 at 360-653-7058.
