MARYSVILLE — The Tomahawk swim team clobbered Meadowdale 138-45,

The girls won 11 of 12 events and had 16 district-qualifying swims in the team’s first opportunity to meet those marks.

Six swimmers qualified in for districts in two events, while others didn’t swim events against Meadowdale that they would likely swim at the end of the season.

Still others, like the standout M-P diving team, weren’t able to qualify for districts by nature of the six jumps at dual meets. District and state competition includes 11 dives and it is at such a meet the Tomahawk divers would qualify for the end of the season.

Three Tomahawks swam district times in the 200 individual medley. Senior captain and school record holder Kami Girard swam a 2:20.91, edging teammates Jewel LeValley (2:24.31) and Karoline Schauffler (2:34.57) who swam under the 2:35 standard. Three more qualified in the 100 breaststroke, the only event the Tomahawks didn’t win.

Girard swam the smallest of margins behind Meadowdale’s Kina Ackerman, finishing 1:14.06 to her 1:14.03. The girls will meet at the end of the season with fellow Tomahawks Leah Gordon (1:16.02) and Melinda Blomberg (1:20.29).

In the meter dive, junior Sarah Clark finished just eight points behind her year-old school record, earning a score of 253.55 in the team’s first scored meet. Sophomore Marysa Eastman and senior Liz Kuljis finished neck and neck for second and third place with scores of 197.50 and 196.85 respectively.

“Our divers put on a show and then some,” said Tomahawk swim coach Jaci Legore Hodgins. “The dove like it was November. It was one of the best diving displays our team has ever had.”

All in all, Legore Hodgins said the team had 36 personal records in the first meet at Meadowdale.

In addition, Melody Travis, Megan Shoemaker, Kendall Vincelette and Emily Reinig also swam district-qualifying times in at least one event.
