Track: Arlington girls have won five out of six meets thus far

ARLINGTON — Eagles brought back another Wesco North victory April 15, defeating Everett and Cascade.

In an all-around effort, the Eagles impressed on both the track and in the field, starting with winners in the throwing events.

Sophomore Alexis Sarver, who owns the state’s best discuss throw so far this season, took top honors in the event, reaching 107-08.

Meanwhile, junior Melissa Webb took a pair of top honors in the long jump (15-08.50) and the triple jump (32-11.50).

Marissa Elgarico won the shot put with a throw of 35-05 while Stephanie Van Slageren’s javelin throw of 116-08 easily bested the competition by more than three feet.

Moving to the track, freshman Diamond Martin won the 400-meter race with a time of 1:05.95, while sophomore Teresa Wadey was the first to finish at 800 meters with a time of 2:27.14.

Kylene Swegle was flawless in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.68 and Sheltyn Rose was atop the 300-meter hurdles field at 50.57.

Switching over to the boys, Maxim Bryson outdid the 100-meter hurdles field at 16.29, and won the high jump at 6-0, besting the field by more than a half of a foot.

Junior Griffin Ginnis was first in the long jump, reaching 20-08 and sophomore Blake McPherson was atop the javelin throw with an impressive 186-00 result, which bested the competition by more than 30 feet.

The Arlington girls were atop the scoreboard with 111 points, while Everett scored 40 and Cascade, 37.

The boys finished second with 59 points behind Everett’s 75.5.
